Mold Testing, Mold Inspection, and Consulting on Indoor Air Quality

Mold is a very common indoor allergen. Most homes have some mold, but some homes have severe and visible mold growth like the pictures below. Mold is commonly found in areas of water damage, high humidity, and lack of air flow.

Molds are one of the most common occurring organisms in the world, and it is estimated that there are over 100,000 different species. These thinly spun threaded organisms produce spores that then allow them to spread themselves through the air, water, open windows, and even among insects. With this said, toxic molds produce toxic spores that can be dangerous and even fatal for susceptible individuals.  Many people are allergic and develop severe respiratory illnesses related to mold exposure including:

  • Nasal stuffiness and eye irritation
  • Fever and shortness of breath
  • Headaches
  • Wheezing
  • Allergic reactions such as asthma attacks, chronic sinusitis
  • Infections in lungs, respiratory tract, maybe even leading to lung cancer
  • Possibly even death

Children, the elderly and people with immune system problems are particularly at risk. However, not all family members may be affected by mold exposure. Contact Healthy Homes if you or any one of your family members have been experiencing any of these symptoms that could be due to mold in your home. Healthy Homes can inspect, test, and perform the mold removal.

Common types of toxic mold include: Stachybotrys (aka “black mold”), Aspergillus, Penecillium, and many more. The first step in removing toxic mold is identifying where it is. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there.

Toxic mold is often found in damp, dark, moist, or wet places, in or around a house or building. Common areas of contamination include basements, closets, bathrooms, showers, and attics. These areas are rich in moisture and darkness and particularly prone to toxic mold growth. Musty smells, moist air, and black spots looking like dirt or soot are characteristic of household molds.

If you have had ANY water intrusion into your home or if you think you have mold contamination, give us a call and set up a mold inspection.
