With back to school right around the corner, you should definitely think twice about which products to buy your children.
Playskool Crayons tested positive for traces of asbestos. “Asbestos is a known carcinogen and can lead to serious health conditions, including lung cancer and mesothelioma,” as stated in the Safer School Supplies Shopping article published by the US Public Interest Research Group. The New York Times also published “Asbestos in a Crayon, Benzene in a Marker: A School Supply Study’s Toxic Results” which includes these findings.
Linda Reinstein, co-founder of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) was live on Facebook, Wednesday August 8th, removing stock of these asbestos-containing crayons from the dollar store on behalf of the organization. Linda is the consummate advocate for the United States fighting to ban ALL asbestos from entering our country and being used in products we use every day in and around our homes, not to mention our schools and children.
Dr. Riegel, owner of Healthy Homes, Inc. and Asbestos Removal Technologies, is very active and involved within this organization and their efforts. Healthy Homes, Inc. and Asbestos Removal Technologies, Inc. will continue to support and work alongside the ADAO with Linda to ban asbestos and protect our children from preventative exposure.
Before buying your children back to school supplies, please be mindful crayons, markers, glues, pens, and even three-ring binders. Contact Healthy Homes for testing of hazardous materials (prior to use) to protect you and your children.
Very Truly,
Dr. Riegel
